The Tale of The Passionate Sole

There once was a fish who was a bit of a philosopher in the fish world and often pondered on the meaning of fish life. He watched the other fish with interest, how they swam, fed, and hid from danger. He often thought, I am so not like the other fish, I investigate, I am daring, I swim in deeper waters, I take risks around anglers lines and I am quite an enlightened fish. I am such a passionate sole. Quite happy in the deep, the fish went on swimming.

Over a period of fish years the enlightened fish began to feel a little strange, what was going on, he asked himself, he began to wonder if ‘this was it’ in his little fish life. Bit by bit he began to experience a yearning he had never felt before. ‘There must be more to fish-life than this’ he told himself. And so he began his journey of fishevelopment, for he was a passionate sole. He spent time with the dolphins, the whales, the seals and brought all this knowledge back to the smaller less informed fish.

My he was feeling very pleased with himself.  All this spiritual fish food, new things to learn, he even began his fish-art. "I think I will hold an fish-art exhibition" he declared.  He didn't actually organise a fish-art-exhibition, he just thought a lot about it. 'I think art is me', he said 'it seems to be my path.' He thought some more. "Yes,  I am definitely going to have a fish-art exhibition.  I am going to have a wonderful show and invite all the big fish (and some minnows) along to see my new studio which I will create" he blubbered, through a haze of bubbles.
He became intensely busy with his artistic fish works and surrounded himself with lots of ’arty fish stuff’. In quieter moments, in the still of the deep, a little voice  in hisfish head whispered ....'you're not an artfish at all…silly silly sole’ The passionate sole sometimes agreed but then got busy again filling his fish days with lots of exciting plans.

‘I need to start making some fish food to buy new supplies he realised as he looked at his dwindling pot of shekels. ‘I know’ he mused as he glided along, letting the sun tickle his belly in the warm, still sea. ‘I will use my years of experience in fishevelopment and creative fish art to teach other less enlightened fish-folk, I'll help them to find the joy in their fishlives, and show them how to develop the creative fishyness of uncovering their gifts. They can evolve as fish artists and I can help them find fish happiness in juicy journey’s and maybe I will open a healing place for little to fish to grow into bigger Fish.  I will call it The Splendidly Fishperfect Retreat’

The enlightened fish had so many ideas, so much to do, so many things to think about, he began to feel not very enlightened at all. (In fact he was feeling a little overwhelmed....which lead him to a bit of plaicecrastination)

"Fish things fish’ he thought, ‘First I  will open fishart; my studio to contain all my fishart supplies and I'll tell all the other Fish Folk I am open. The  shoals are sure to pass by, I will call it Fishfood for the Sole." (because he was such a  passionate little sole,  he fell in love with his fishlike  idea and chortled with glee.)   " Yes, I‘ll open it to all fish folk, wide and far, deep and shallow. But heck, I have a problem, I can’t afford a studio on my meagre income and the only other space is the shoal shed at the bottom of my sea garden.'  'Mind you' he bubbled, 'it's packed to the gills,  full of stuff everywhere, fishart, bits of net, seaweed, fish paper, all manner of very interesting and possibly useful items, but it’s all too overwhelming for me to actually clear it out.'

'No, I will think it through, get it down on fish paper andsee how we go. It is so much easier to fishitate on it in my fish-head. I can fishitate whilst swimming and have a ponder, probably come up with even more creative new ideas in my mind. I can’t face the thought of clearing out so much stuff ~ it’s so much more important to work on the plan first’.

Happily swishing along in his own little world in the deep of the sea, thinking about his fish-art, his Kaizen Coaching Practice which he really hadn't been doing much with, and generally thinking about Kaizen like things, small swims, the Kaizen friends he had met on his Kaizen Coach Course, the fun times, stuff like that, he didn’t hear his mentor the Kaizen Carp swim up behind him.   ‘Well, passionate sole ’ whispered the Kaizen Carp, ‘what small fish steps have you been taking lately to make your creative dream come true? ‘ Golly gosh’ choked the splendidly imperfect sole, 'I didn't hear you swimming so close'....well spluttered the passionate sole,  I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had a Fishperfect moment, I am so busy getting plans down on paper, I am going to coach the minnows, and have ...Mmm A Splendidly Imperfect Kaizen  Retreat and a host of other divine and Mmmm delectable Kaizen moments and live a truly enlightened life!

Hmm... nodded KC (we call all Kaizen Coaches KC) that sounds amazing, how wonderful, so innovative, so creative. My you’re going to rock the deep with all that you plan to do’

'Fishy fintastic isn't it asked the passionate sole rather tentively,   it’s going to be so electrifying even the eels want to come, I can’t wait.  Er erm...the passionate sole started to gabble and gurgle in a very curious manner. "The flying fish have made enquiries, a dodgey flat fish also,  conga eels really do want to come, you know how they love to dance.  The Sharks have shown interest, a bit temperamental, I know, so I’ve said only if they are well behaved during my Kaizen fishshops, I'll allow them to attend.....'

Wonderful,  agreed the Kaizen Carp.. So back to my original question ‘ what small steps have your taken to get your studio ready?’

‘Well as I say replied the passionate sole,  who by now was beginning to feel decidedly less passionate, 'it's a bit diffficult to do anything till the space in my shoal shed is cleared and when that's been done which, as I say, is a bit diffficult at the moment,  I can't really begin..’

‘So when might you start to clear it?' asked the patient  KC .

'Yes well, it’ isssss...a bit of a problem,  I've got loads of fishart and crafty bits and bobs in there, and a great old pile of habits, lord knows when the monkfish wil take them back.  Oh yes, and a load of old materials, and some octopus boots - several actually, not to mention bottles of squid ink and to top it all some clever cod has dumped some crates of old pieces - ooh nasty!'   The passionate Sole felt very indignant ‘I haven’t just been KaKaizeny swimming along you know, I have been extremely productive. It’s not easy being a passionate Kaizen sole, there is so much to remember, so much to do and so many hooks to watch out for."  hmph!

‘Oh yes', said the Kaizen Carp Coach 'sometimes you make such great leaps, you could almost be mistaken for a flying fish!  So why don’t we make a timeline for your wonderful studio to be open by?’

The passionate sole squirmed and wriggled, he wondered if he  actually were turning into an eel. 'Well…But….It’s just that…oh I need to swim away', he thought, 'these anchors are weighing me down'.

‘Well?'  Asked KC ‘How about it?  In your tackle box your have many tools you could use to help you with this, haven't you?’ The passionate sole, began to calm down, he began to entertain the Kaizen way of having his studio open in a month or so's time, remembering to break it down into teeny tiny fishstrokes. ‘I could ask the Octopus to help me - many Kaizen hands make light work and I could get some other passionate soles to join in, it might be a possibility’ he mused.

‘So pick a date right' now urged the Kaizen Carp, 'could you write it down as a fishivity project and mind sculpt how you’ll feel when its done?’

‘Hey I know', gabbled the passionate sole, 'I could have a grand opening and ask splendiciously succulent fish friends to tea, we could have some water music.  Yes, I’ll ring up the mermaids, they'll put lights in the rocks, and bring sumptuous cakes and I'll do some deliciously  divine nibbles and wait, I can put the invitation in a muse letter, lots of other fish-folk have been showing an interest in the Kaizen Creativity Coaching Steps and  there are other passionate soles out too, not as passionate as me of course, but they are waiting for my new muse letter- oh yes, I can sea it all now, it will be a fine and grand event.'  The passionate sole did a little fish dance swimming around trying to catch his tale, he did that when he was excited.

‘Slow down and breath' smiled the Kaizen Carp Coach, 'How do you feel now’?

‘Good, good no great' enthused the passionate sole, what a great idea, yes, yes I can do this.  I am going to do it anyway'  he chortled remembering one of his Kaizen anchors, 'I shall make  a detailed fish plan and break it down into tiny minow steps which are very do-able!'

The Kaizen Carp swam gently away, pleased to have been of assistance. The passionate sole, having regained his natural passion for all things creative whooshed through the water, eager to begin his plan.  ' I'm on the right track, on my way oh yeah yeah he whistled'  I will make use of all the my kaizen tools I had forgotton I had, I am affirming my plan right now!' Small steps keeps the  frightened fish flight or fight brain asleep and helps me create what I really want in easy stages.  Ha why didn't I think of that before....never mind, credit for thinking of it now' he reminded himself....oh yes he no longer felt like a slithering eel, he was back to being the most passionate sole in the sea!

AND.... the moral of this tale, is when you enlist the help of a Kaizen Carp Coach, be prepared for him to be a fabulous listener, a great motivator and a bit of an angler - when you say you want to really do something, they  won’t let you off the hook, until you at least begin one small step to realise your dream!

(Thank you Linda for keeping me on the hook ~ I didn’t like it at first but we got there in the end!)
